I always bought frozen french fries from the supermarket. I like certain brand and I always have at least 1 pack of frozen fries in the freezer. I fried or baked them, mostly I baked them, than sprinkled with seasoning salt or just with salt and ready to eat. One day I made steaks for my husband and daughter, I gave them choices either baked potatoes or french fries - I was pretty sure we still have frozen fries in the freezer, it turned out none ..... we have no frozen fries, oooohhh boy, what should I do. I checked in the basement if we still have some potato left, and we still had quite a few left ..... mmmmmmm...... I thought to myself why not making french fries from scratch. So I did and I never buy anymore frozen fries from the supermarket ever again. Why I never thought about making my own french fries, I made it in the past .... Why buy frozen fries, well, maybe modern thinking, busy with everyday life, want something simple and fast, so go to the supermarket buy some frozen french fries - keep in the freezer until you need it, take it out, fry or bake them, sprinkle with salt or any seasoning you like and whoaalllaaa ... french fries is ready, simple - fast, right???? .... wrong. Of course it will take longer to prepare and cook, but make your own is the best, it is better than frozen, so .... make time for your own food, healthier, safe money for sure, definitely fresh, taste good and better than frozen. I will never buy any frozen french fries because I make my own french fries from now on. If I made my own french fries in the past, for sure I can make it now. Actually it is not so difficult to make it, very easy, the taste totally ... totally different than the frozen one. fresh for sure, not to mention self satisfaction when members of family love it, eat all the fries and get complimentary from them and they ask for more. Imagine, this is only a french fries, how about other food you cook and get the same reaction, you just want to cook and cook and cook ... .ha ha ha .... maybe you could open a restaurant after that. My daughter always says to me that I am her greatest chef, and I should open a restaurant and cook for other people too. Good thinking and compliments to me from my daughter and I thank you her for that, it keep me going and make me want to cook something good and healthy for her and my family. Also it is reminded me of my beloved mom .... she was my (our - my siblings and I) greatest, the best chef in the world. Now my daughter said the same thing to me that I am her greatest chef .... make me really happy and wanted to cook or bake more for my family.
Now for my homemade fries you need to have :
4 or 5 Russet potatoes, I always use Russet potato to make my french fries. Peel - wash and put them in the bowl.
Slice the potatoes with the thickness of your preference, be careful not to cut your finger.
Stack the slice of potatoes and lay them on the board, then cut it jullienne, thick or thin is your option. I always cut my potatoes in a shoestring cut. My family preference.
Rinse the cut potatoes in the strainer and put them in the big bowl.
Sprinkle with Cornstarch - until cover all potatoes. Cornstrach make the french fries crunchy.
Heated the oil in the frying pan - should be really hot.
Place the cut potatoes in the frying pan, make sure they are not stick together, break them apart so they cook evenly. Cook for about 20 minutes or until the fries turn slightly golden brown. Be careful thin cut potatoes burn easily than thick cut.
Remove the fries from the frying pan into the bowl covered with paper towel to absorb the oil.
Shake the fries so the oil drip onto the paper towel.
Season the fries with your own seasoning choices.
Enjoy it .... good, fresh, tastier, most of all it is your own french fries.
